Soccer-themed Blu-ray/DVD is truly a dream

The start of the World Cup has soccer on everyone’s mind, for good reason.

Enter “Alex & Me” (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment), now on Blu-ray and DVD. The movie stars professional soccer superstar Alex Morgan as well as Nickelodeon star Siena Agudong.

The uplifting film follows a teenager who dreams of making it big in soccer, but is overshadowed in her own house by her football-playing brother. Then, she fails to make a top local soccer team. But a funny thing happens after accidentally hitting her head: A poster of Morgan comes to life, and the teen learns what it takes to put forth hard work to make her dreams come true. Only she can see Alex, who trains her to unprecedented levels.

The motivating film teaches the lesson to keep following your passions.

“The Swap” (Monarch Home Entertainment) gives homage to “Freaky Friday” but with a modern spin. Two friends of the opposite sex argue over a text about who has it easier: The girl who is trying to improve in rhythmic gymnastics and has problems with her best friend, or the boy who is struggling to live up to his brothers’ hockey legacy and his dad’s high expectations. Suddenly, a real-life swap and switch occurs. Peyton List and Jacob Bertrand star.

“Night of the Lepus” (Scream Factory), the campy 1970s cult classic, debuts on Blu-ray with a new 2K scan of the original film elements. A  hormone intended to alter the breeding cycle of rabbits overrunning Arizona ranchlands ends up turning them into flesh-eating, 150-pound monsters. Janet Leigh, Rory Calhoun, Stuart Whitman and DeForest Kelley star. New audio commentaries accentuate the Blu-ray.
