It’s time to do the time warp again as midnight has struck again.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” comes to Blu-ray Disc as a 40th anniversary edition (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment), proving that a “cult” movie can last for generations. Tim Curry stars as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite scientist who lives in a houseful of wild characters.
With performances by Susan Sarandon and Meat Loaf, the movie defined the notion of midnight showings.
The 40th anniversary edition features limited-edition packaging, exclusive pink surgical gloves, fishnet stockings and a slew of bonus features.
‘Love & Mercy’ shines
The ultimate summer band is the Beach Boys, so it should be no surprise that the Blu-ray of “Love & Mercy” should be squeezed in right before summer’s end.
“Love & Mercy” (Lionsgate Home Entertainment) involves the story of Beach Boys singer-songwriter Brian Wilson at two crucial points of his life: the 1960s at the peak of the group’s powers, and in the 1980s after his mental breakdown as he tries to reclaim his life. John Cusack and Paul Dano play Wilson during these stages with absolute splendor, and Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks supplement with their own fine performances.
