‘Horrible Bosses 2’ a ‘suitable’ comedy

Timing is everything, and at least Warner Bros. Home Entertainment had the sense not to release “Horrible Bosses 2” in mid-October.

You see, Oct. 16 is Boss’s Day.

DVD Horrible Bosses 2“Horrible Bosses 2” is the sequel to the 2011 hit comedy that reunites Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as working stiffs, as well as repeat performances by Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx.

The once-underlings Bateman, Day and Sudeikis venture out to become their own bosses, but they are no match for a slick investor who outwits them. Left with no legal leg to stand on, the threesome outsmart themselves by attempting to kidnap the investor’s adult some and ransom him.

The Blu-ray contains several hilarious special features, including an infomercial, employee “testimonials,” deleted scenes, featurettes and an extended cut of the movie.

Also this week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases “Whiplash,” which has put J.K. Simmons on the map with his Oscar victory Sunday night for best supporting actor (he has come a long way since the Farmers Insurance commercials and voice of the yellow M&M). Simmons plays a rigid music teacher who “whips” a young jazz drummer (Miles Teller) into shape. The movie, which won two other Academy Awards (film editing and sound mixing) and was nominated for two additional Oscars, co-stars Paul Reiser. Simmons and writer/director Damien Chazelle share and audio commentary, and another bonus feature shows the two with Teller at the Toronto International Film Festival. Blu-ray exclusives include famous drummers discussing their craft and passion for drumming, an original short “Whiplash” film with optional commentary, and a deleted scene with optional commentary.
