Hall of Champions beckons

When the men’s basketball Final Four returns in April, the NCAA Hall of Champions will be jam-packed, making the exhibits difficult to appreciate.

AttractionsNow is the time to head to downtown’s White River State Park to fully appreciate the hall, which features two floors of interactive exhibits plus all the bells and whistles — a half-court 1930s replica gymnasium, sports simulators featuring four sports, and trivia for all 23 NCAA sports.

Quick, name those 23 sports. Can’t do it? You’ll remember after visiting the hall, just west of the underground parking garage.

A wooden rotunda honors past athletes, and a succession of “One Shining Moment” videos of past basketball tournaments entice viewers.

If you can’t make it this weekend, mark Feb. 16 on your calendar for the hall’s Presidents’ Day Celebration. Former NCAA student-athletes will be on-hand to lead a “Fun with Fitness” event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will learn more about exercise, technique and nutrition from the former student-athletes. Admission and free, and prizes will be awarded.
