One is greater than 11, at least in the world of DVDs.
Who wants to keep track of 11 separate boxed sets when one big set covers everything?
“Shameless: The Complete Series” (Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment) does precisely that. This new release is a compilation DVD set that packages together all 134 episodes from 11 seasons.
Who can ever forget this amazing Showtime comedy-drama, which is based on the eponymous British series? William H. Macy is in fine form as the oft-intoxicated man in charge of a motley family brood of six spirited children. With all his nightlife shenanigans, he leaves his eldest daughter, played by Emmy Rossum, to hold down the fort.
The five other kids, including one played by Emmy Award winner Jeremy Allen White, all have distinct personalities that make this a lovable, and laughable, group to cheer on.
The huge boxed set includes all the previously released special features, so dig in for a binge-fest!
Other Titles
Can you hear me? “Tommy” (Shout! Studios) makes its way to a 4K Ultra HD plus Blu-ray Disc pack as a 50th anniversary edition. Based on The Who’s 1969 album of the same name, this 1975 movie boasts a who’s-who of actors and musicians, including Jack Nicholson, Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed, members of The Who, Eric Clapton, and Tina Turner. The new 4K transfer looks terrific.
“The Battle of Chile” (Icarus Films) has been restored, and the 1976 film (Spanish with optional English subtitles) looks better than ever. The movie analyzes the filmed nine months leading up to the day of Chile’s democratically elected government being overthrown in a bloody coup by Gen. August Pinochet’s army. The elected president died in the coup. The DVD also includes “The First Year,” a 1972 film by Patricio Guzman.
