Family drama at its finest unfolds in “A Balance,” an excellent new film available on DVD by Film Movement.

The Japanese drama explores a bullied girl’s suicide; a documentarian investigating the death puts her in conflict with conservative-minded management at her TV network. Then, she finds out information about her father’s involvement with the girl’s suicide, so the investigative filmmaker struggles with her conscience and her compromised perception of the truth.
